Ibi Aziz viola da gamba solo, or with continuo players as required (see also The Marésienne Consort)

Ibi Aziz is one of the leading viola da gamba players of his generation, and is in demand primarily as a chamber musician, period orchestral player, and soloist.

Ibi began his musical studies at the age of seven, in Malaysia, where he was born, taking up the violin and piano. In 1999 he was admitted to Trinity College of Music London to study an instrument which he had fallen in love with as a small boy, the viola da gamba, and was tutored there by Alison Crum; he was also taught by Wieland Kuijken and Jordi Savall in various masterclasses in the UK and Europe. At Trinity he won many awards and prizes: he was the first person to win the College’s Early Music award, and later became the first peformer in the College’s history to win its prestigious Gold Medal Competition on a period instrument in 2005. Ibi is a member of The Rose Consort of Viols, one of the most internationally acclaimed and respected of viol consorts, The Marésienne Consort, of which he is the founder and director, Ensemble Telemania, a specialist in high baroque repertoire, and Sestina, a European viol consort formed by various alumni of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. He has recorded for Signum Classics with Charivari Agréable and The Marésienne Consort, and his latest recording project involved the singer Clare Wilkinson with The Rose Consort of Viols.
