Brighton Consort | |
From £600 for a capella programmes | Renaissance/Baroque |
A cappella choir directed by Deborah Roberts
Brighton Consort is a Brighton based amateur/student choir specialising in sacred music from the 16th and 17th centuries. Under the directorship of ex Tallis Scholar member Deborah Roberts the group has explored a wide range of rarely performed masterpieces by composers such as Senfl, Isaac, White and Shepherd as well as timeless masterpieces by Josquin, Palestrina, Victoria, Tallis, and Byrd. The choir has even been augmented to allow performances of Tallis’s 40 part Spem in Alium. Regular workshops, open to all, allow singers to work on specialist repertoire directed by some of the country’s leading experts such as Sally Dunkley, Andrew Carwood, and Robert Hollingworth.
While promoting three or four programmes per year in the Sussex area, Brighton Consort is now also undertaking engagements for outside promoters. This year they will perform in the Arundel festival, as well as their regular slot in the Brighton Early Music Festival in which many members are active volunteers.
Programme:
Complexity and Clarity: Music from early 16th century Catholic England contrasted with that of the greatest European contemporary Josquin des Pres.
