Forqueray is a versatile and dynamic group of musicians consisting of two violins, viola da gamba and keyboard and takes its name from the virtuoso French gambist and composer Antoine Forqueray. The group specialises in 18th century French repertoire, along with the English music which was influenced by it. The ensemble also seeks to exploit the less common repertoire which uses obligato keyboard and/ or gamba, spanning the period from Coprario to Mondonville. Amongst Forqueray’s repertoire are a number of unpublished works by composers such as Benjamin Cook, Peter Prelleur, and Johann Cristoph Pepusch, together with the less commonly performed music of Leclair and Jacquet de la Guerre
All of Forqueray’s members are active in the early music world and work regularly with some of leading ensembles in this field, as well as pursuing varied and successful solo careers.
