Fontanella is the UK’s leading professional recorder ensemble, featuring five of the country’s most talented and respected recorder players. Their distinctive line-up combines a friendly and charismatic stage presence with the finest musicianship, offering something to everyone from the general music lover to the most seasoned early music enthusiast.

Fontanella has appeared live to great acclaim all over the UK and has featured on radio and TV networks across Britain and Europe (including live on Children’s BBC 1 as part of Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebrations). Fontanella’s repertoire encompasses all periods of music from medieval through to contemporary music, including renaissance gems, baroque favourites and jazz arrangements along the way. Fontanella’s fantastic newly-commissioned Renaissance instruments have also enabled the ensemble to explore an exciting new range of 15th and 16th century programmes, making Tudor music a particular speciality.

Poesia per Musica: A feast of glorious music from Renaissance Italy. Fontanella’s ingenious and attractive programme includes madrigals, balletti and dance music by Gastoldi, Festa, Lassus, Fontanelli and Monteverdi - set against the rich cultural backdrop of Rome, Florence, Venice and Siena.

Education:

Blown Away!: A celebration of the recorder family in all its shapes and sizes across the centuries, proving just how versatile our instrument can be. Featuring recorders ranging in size from just six inches long to over seven feet tall, Fontanella will perform favourite pieces by Byrd, Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart, plus jazz classics, TV themes and a world premiere by an audience member.
