Catherine King mezzo-soprano Jacob Heringman lute

Catherine King and Jacob Heringman have made numerous appearances and broadcasts together throughout Europe and America. Their four duo CDs (on ASV and Linn) have all met with critical acclaim. Their latest release, Madrigals by Verdelot, with tenor Charles Daniels, was launched with a concert at London’s Wigmore Hall. Catherine and Jacob have also recorded for Naxos (with The Rose Consort of Viols), Riverrun (with The Marini Consort and Virelai) and for Virgin (with Virelai). In addition to performing lute songs of the Renaissance and early Baroque periods, the duo has championed the cause of the contemporary lute song, attracting several new commissions by British and American composers, including Malcolm Bruno and Andrew Keeling.

Regia Pietas: explores the seldom-heard and astonishingly varied and appealing sacred repertoire for voice and lute. Includes sixteenth and early seventeenth century psalm, motet and hymn settings from England, France and Spain. Composers include Campion, Le Roy, Morlaye, Vallet, Mudarra.
Old and New Lute Songs: In this programme of lute songs in English, Catherine King and Jacob Heringman combine two distinct elements. Firstly, the programme includes works specially commissioned for the duo by the English composer Andrew Keeling, the Scottish composer Elizabeth Liddle, and the American composer Jonathan Chenette. Secondly, and interspersed amongst the new works, the duo presents some of the finest gems of the Elizabethan and Jacobean lute song repertoire, culled from their first 16 years of performing and recording this music.
