Susanne Heinrich pardessus/bass viols Kah-Ming Ng harpsichord/chamber organ
This is a long-standing musical partnership which sparkles with wit and excitement, and revels in unaffected music-making. The repertory in question is the neglected genre of accompanied keyboard music, viz. music written for the harpsichord with an obbligato melody instrument. In this programme, the keyboard is partnered by the sonorous viola da gamba or the sweet sopranino of the pardessus de viole. Referred to by the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians as ‘one of the leading players of this generation’, Susanne Heinrich is noted for her ‘deeply evocative viol playing’ Gramophone, which is ‘smooth as melted chocolate’ Classic CD. Kah-Ming Ng is referred to as ‘an outstanding strategist on the harpsichord and the organ, and a sagacious continuo player’ Goldberg and noted for his ‘undoubted technical virtuosity and intellectual grasp’ Early Music News
