Linden Baroque Orchestra, now in its 22nd year, offers spirited and idiomatic playing on original instruments at authentic pitch of 17th and 18th century music right across the repertoire from the unknown - we’ve given many first ‘modern’ performances such as by Gilles and Fasch - to the mainstream. We promote a few of our own concerts each year, mainly in London, often at St Alfege Church, Greenwich and offer ourselves for hire to choirs wishing to perform with a baroque band at a very competitive cost. Choirs have been thrilled with our quality having previously endured unrehearsed ‘scratch’ bands and we get many repeat bookings. We have also been asked to play at festivals where we have surprised organisers who thought their budgets would prohibit a superb full-scale baroque orchestral concert. We are also available for promotional work and may offer reduced rates for charity fundraising concerts. We play mainly around London and the South East but have travelled as far afield as Rome where we gave the first perfomances of Purcell’s King Arthur. Our musical director is Steven Devine, the well-known harpsichordist. We have worked with other directors such as Paul Goodwin (the well-known conductor and former baroque oboist, a founding member and now President), Peter Holman, Walter Reiter (our recent Musical Directory) and Catherine Mackintosh and artists such as James Bowman, Paul Agnew and Apollo & Pan. Our members include young professionals, advanced students and talented dilettanti and well-known professionals return to play with us frequently. Our CD of music by Fasch has been widely praised.
