Musica Mundi is a well-established ensemble dedicated to communicating the excitement and immediacy of music of the 17th and 18th centuries to audiences via a combination of lively programming and historically informed performance practice. The group also has an interest in contemporary music, and has commissioned and performed new works for early instruments. The core of the group is an ensemble of voice, cello/gamba and harpsichord, but it can be expanded to include full strings and/or wind instruments; clavichord and voice recitals are also available.
Musica Mundi has performed throughout the UK at venues including National Trust properties, universities, and music clubs. Musica Mundi takes particular care in planning its programmes, aiming to combine coherence with variety. Performances often integrate music with linking narration. This has proved particularly popular: a recent review comments ‘… witty and enlightening commentary on the music added to our appreciation of the repertoire’.
