The Rose Consort is devoted to the wonderfully rich English consort repertory from Taverner and Byrd to Lawes, Locke and Purcell, and is unique in its use of all gut-strung viols. The Consort performs extensively throughout Britain and the continents of Europe and North America, appears regularly on the BBC and in the major London concert halls, and has made a number of highly acclaimed recordings on the Amon Ra, Woodmansterne, Naxos and CPO labels. Guest artists with the Rose Consort include sopranos Emma Kirkby and Ellen Hargis, mezzos Catherine King and Clare Wilkinson, lutenist Jacob Heringman and organist Timothy Roberts. The Rose Consort has received awards for its research and performance of newly devised programmes and has also commissioned and performed new pieces for voices and viols by Malcolm Bruno, Elizabeth Liddle and Ivan Moody.

Four Gentlemen of the Chapel Royal: (4 or 5 viols plus Clare Wilkinson) Fervent Latin motets, sonorous Anglican anthems, madrigals and instrumental fantasias for an Elizabethan entertainment, including a wealth of varied In Nomines by four of England’s greatest composers: Tallis, Tye, Byrd and Tomkins.

Education:

Music for the Fairest Queen: Lecture/recital on music in Elizabethan England (for any age, but particularly Key Stage 2 history curriculum). Practical workshops on viol consorts and music for voices and viols for university students and adult amateurs.
