Emily Van Evera has earned an international reputation for expressive singing of a variety of repertoires. In addition to live performances in recital, oratorio and baroque opera she features on numerous groundbreaking and award-winning recordings including as Purcell’s Dido (Taverner Consort, BBC/Sony) and in Italian 16th and 17th century chamber music (Circa 1500, Tragicomedia, Musica Secreta). Her latest disc, a musical portrait of the Elizabethan gentlewoman and muse Lady Penelope Rich, marks a new departure for Emily as the first in a series of artist-led special projects. It received outstanding critical acclaim and will be followed by concerts and recordings of music by Venetian virtuosa Barbara Strozzi and by Francesca Caccini, singer/songwriter to the Medici. Emily has also welcomed recent forays into later repertoire: Fanny Mendelssohn, Charles Ives and Vaughan Williams, English and Irish folk music and 20th century popular song.
