Lynda Sayce lute, theorbo, early guitar

One of Britain’s leading lutenists with over 100 recordings to her name, Lynda is also noted as a musical scholar with a strong interest in history, literature and the visual arts. She read Music at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, then studied lute with Jakob Lindberg at the Royal College of Music. She performs regularly with leading period instrument ensembles worldwide, especially The King’s Consort and the Musicians of the Globe, and has broadcast extensively on radio and TV. Lynda has written for Early Music, the latest Grove Dictionary of Music, and the art journal Apollo, and her PhD research on the theorbo is to be published in 2006-07. She is passionately interested in the lute in its widest cultural context, and her solo performances are designed to communicate its delights to modern audiences, drawing on a huge repertory of instruments, music, and anecdotes, frequently with local or topical themes.

Education:

Meet the Lute: A hands-on history illustrated with instruments, wood, moulds, slides, and live and recorded music. Several variations available, focusing on the lute in European history (16th-18th centuries), in the visual arts (15th-18th centuries), and Shakespearean music.
