Founded in 2001, The British Camerata is emerging as one of the leading young British Baroque groups. The group varies in size and their repertoire ranges from Monteverdi to early Mozart, with dramatic and varied programmes which sometimes include an actor. The British Camerata have recently featured on Radio 3’s Early Music Show, are recipients of a Concordia Foundation Award and were finalists at the 2005 International Early Music Network Young Artists’ Competition. They gave the world première in January 2006 of Jove’s Nod at St George’s, Hanover Square, composed especially for the group by Stephen Dodgson. Recent and forthcoming performances include the Palace of Westminster, National Portrait Gallery, St Paul’s Cathedral Crypt, St Paul’ s, Knightsbridge, Bishopsgate Hall and London Handel Festival. Plans for 2006 include concerts in France, Ireland and the Felicja Blumental International Music Festival in Tel Aviv.
Community projects are also very important to The British Camerata. Group members have collaborated on many outreach programmes with organisations including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Wigmore Hall, Live Music Now, London Handel House Museum, Connect education project and City of London Festival.
