Carole Cerasi harpsichord/virginals/fortepiano/clavichord
After an unusual upbringing - born in Sweden of Sephardi/Turkish origins, with French as her first language - Carole Cerasi has been based in London since 1982. With her group Ensemble Türk she explores the classical fortepiano chamber repertoire. She is professor of harpsichord and fortepiano at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Her first CD, the complete works of Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, won a Gramophone Award. Further discs of sonatas by C P E Bach and works by Thomas Tomkins received a Diapason d’Or de l’Année each; her CD J S Bach and the Möller Manuscript was also awarded a Diapason d’Or de l’Année and was runner-up for the Gramophone Award. She has performed throughout Europe: France, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Estonia, Czech Republic, Ireland and England as well as in Israel, Japan, Colombia, Canada and the USA.
Sample Programme:
Ensemble Türk could offer a programme based on the celebrated concerts organised by Johann Peter Salomon in London from 1783. As I have a very wide range of repertoire (English Virginalists to Beethoven), I am happy to fit in with current themes as well as mixing harpsichord, fortepiano and clavichord.
Education:
Harpsichord and fortepiano masterclasses; pre-concert talks; introduction to pieces during concerts; private teaching/coaching
Recordings:
Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre: Complete harpsichord suites (MET CD1026) (Gramophone Award 1999); Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: Sonatas on harpsichord and fortepiano (MET CD1032) (Diapason d’Or de l’Année 2001); Vermeer: Constantijn Huygens and his musical Circle, with Julia Gooding, soprano and Chris Wilson, lute (MET CD1051); Thomas Tomkins: Works for harpsichord and virginals (MET CD1049) (Editor’s Choice, Gramophone 5/2001; Diapason d’Or de l’Année 2001); JS Bach and the Möller Manuscript (MET CD 1055) (Editor’s Choice, Gramophone 3/2003; Diapason d’Or de l’Année 2003); Manuel Blasco de Nebra: Sonatas and Pastorelas (MET CD 1064); JS Bach: English Suites (MET CD1078)
